Indian Head Massage

This treatment has been practised in India for more than 1000 years, and references have been found in Ayurvedic texts dating back nearly 4000 years.

Indian children receive daily massages from birth, reducing to once or twice a week as they reach 6 years old. The women traditionally use oils during the massage to encourage long, healthy, lustrous hair as well as for the health benefits the routine provides. Barbers tend to offer a more rigorous, invigorating scalp massage to refresh the individual, which is not considered part of a ‘beauty’ regime.

Indian Head Massage is ideal for people who spend hours at a desk or on a computer and those who suffer from headaches and sinus problems. Working on a physical and psychological level, the techniques used calm and de-stress the whole body.  By massaging the head and shoulders, applying pressure to Chinese acupressure points and focussing on Chakras energies are rebalanced and circulation stimulated.  This increases the sense of well-being and increases the distribution of blood, oxygen and nutrients encouraging the body to heal itself.

Indian Head Massage benefits include:

  • Relief from pain and stiffness in the muscles of the face, scalp, neck, upper back and shoulders
  • Relief of tension headaches, eye strain, nasal congestion and jaw tightness
  • Improved lymphatic drainage leading to removal of toxin build ups
  • Strengthened immune system
  • Improved circulation
  • Betters skin condition
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improved clarity and concentration
  • Deep relaxation and reduction in stress levels
  • Restful and refreshing sleep

Indian Head Massage - Tola Health

What to expect during a treatment

It is not necessary to undress completely for this treatment, you will only need to remove your top clothes and slip bra straps down.  While you are seated I will use a light oil or lotion and apply a combination of techniques which will ease away shoulder, neck and head tension.  This will be followed by applying gentle pressure to Chinese acupressure points on your face.  The treatment ends with Chakra balancing.

After a treatment

You can expect to feel very relaxed and calm after a treatment. It is perfectly safe for you to drive home. Occasionally, you may experience a healing response. Symptoms may include: slight headache, runny nose, tiredness, needing to go to the toilet more often. This is a good sign and should last for no more than 24hrs. If this is the case continue to drink plenty of water, eat healthily and take gentle exercise if possible. If you have any concerns do not hesitate to contact me.
