Foot and Hand Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the principle that the anatomy of the body is reflected in miniature on the feet and hands. By using the thumbs and fingers to apply pressure in a specific pattern, a Reflexologist is able to access all the organs and systems of the body.
The human body is made of many organs and processes working together in harmony. When functioning effectively, the body is in balance. This balance is called homeostasis. If an organ ceases to function effectively this balance is lost and we become ill.
Reflexology is based on the principle that the anatomy of the body is reflected in miniature on the feet, face and hands. By using the thumbs and fingers to apply pressure in a specific pattern, a Reflexologist is able to access all the organs and systems of the body. During a session I may incorporate Precision Reflexology techniques which use ‘linking’ to enhance the power of the treatment. ‘Linking’ involves gently holding more than one specific reflex point at the same time, increasing the rebalancing effect on the body’s energy. Clients may feel vibrations or unusual energy within specific parts of their body during ‘linking’.
A treatment is deeply relaxing and will improve your sleep. By reducing your stress and anxiety, and improving circulation in this way, your sense of well-being will improve and you will feel better. Anecdotally, many people feel that other symptoms improve as well and the body of research that supports this is growing. To hear from people who have found Reflexology effective for their health and well-being watch this short video:
What to expect during a treatment
For Foot Reflexology you will need to take off your shoes and socks and roll trousers up to the knee. For Hand Reflexology you will need to be able to roll sleeves up above the elbow so it is helpful for both treatments to wear loose, comfortable clothing to allow for this. I will begin with an examination of the feet/hands and gentle massage and will then apply pressure to reflex points on the feet and on the lower leg/hands and arms, using my thumb, fingers or knuckles. You may find some areas of the feet/hands are tender when pressed but this will pass. The experience should feel relaxing and you may even feel drowsy.
After a treatment
You can expect to feel very relaxed and calm after a treatment. It is perfectly safe for you to drive home. Occasionally, you may experience a healing response. Symptoms may include: slight headache, runny nose, tiredness, needing to go to the toilet more often. This is a good sign and should last for no more than 24hrs. If this is the case continue to drink plenty of water, eat healthily and take gentle exercise if possible. If you have any concerns do not hesitate to contact me.
