Women's Health: Nurturing Wellness at Every Stage of Life

From the beginning of puberty through the transformative phases of menstruation, reproductive health, peri-menopause and menopause, a woman’s body under goes many physical and psychological changes caused by hormonal imbalances.

Reflexology can be a powerful support for you at any stage of your journey, helping to balance hormones and reduce painful and distressing symptoms. Each woman and her journey are unique, presenting their own challenges. Bespoke treatments with me will provide support for your own personal circumstances, whilst activating your body’s ability to heal itself.

Puberty marks the beginning of a significant transition from childhood to adolescence. During this period young people experience physical and emotional changes which may be difficult to understand leading to mood swings. Reflexology is non-invasive and safe for all ages helping to balance hormones and improve mood.

Menstruation is a natural and vital process that signifies a woman's reproductive health. For some women the cycle is regular and painless, however, many women can experience headaches or migraines, mood swings and bloating in the run up to their period.

The symptoms of Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) may vary from woman to woman, but what is certain is that they can be debilitating and confusing. Women may suffer from heavy (Menorrhagia) and/or painful periods (Dysmenorrhea) or have an irregular cycle. All these symptoms can be exacerbated by stress and poor sleep.

By balancing the endocrine system, Reflexology can help regulate the hormones, alleviating pain and discomfort while reducing stress. A small-scale research project found that Reflexology reduced the intensity and duration of period pain more effectively than ibuprofen.

To address menstrual disorders, I would recommend regular sessions for 3 – 4 months, beginning with weekly treatments, progressing to fortnightly then monthly as symptoms improve.

Menopause marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years, as fertility starts to decline and the body starts to produce less oestrogen. The transitional phase leading to natural Menopause is known as Peri-menopause.

Peri-menopause can last for months or even years and although some women have no symptoms, others suffer with many symptoms which can have a major impact on their daily life and well-being. Common symptoms include: hot flushes, night sweats, poor sleep, brain fog, fatigue and joint pain.

Regular Reflexology sessions can support you by balancing your hormonal system and reducing stress so that you can sleep better and re-energise. Two small research studies have shown that Reflexology can reduce the impact of the menopausal symptoms of depression and vasomotor symptoms (hot flushes and night sweats).

As with menstrual disorders, I would recommend regular sessions for 3 – 4 months, beginning with weekly treatments, progressing to fortnightly then monthly as symptoms improve. I have also developed my Menopause Facial Reflex Ritual to empower you with self-help strategies to use at home between treatments for better, faster results.
